Co Martin ~ 2008
Who is Co ...
Disclaimer:
All the good you see in me is the Lord, all the bad you see is just me.
Brief History:

Colleen “Co” Stevens Martin officially announced her candidacy for the
2008 United States presidential election on January 01, 2008.  Co is a
mother, grandmother and step-mother.  Education has been her vocation
for almost two decades. She is a
breast cancer survivor and currently lives
in New Mexico with her husband and near six of her children/step-children.
Co is the oldest daughter of Alvin Otis Stevens and Corene Brown
Stevens.  Her father, Al, was born in El Paso, Texas, to a family of
Choctaw and Welsh heritage (among other things).  He served during
WWII in the merchant marines at Saipan and in the U.S. Navy as a
seaman electrician.  After leaving the military, he met and married Corene
(Stevens) in Searcy, Arkansas while attending Harding college. He
subsequently became a preacher.  Corene, who was born on the family
homestead in Estancia valley, New Mexico, of European and Cherokee
heritage, partnered Al as he preached and later in missionary work.
Finally, Al became an officer as a Chaplain in the U.S. Army, where he
served in the Mobile Riverine Force during the Vietnam war.  Some years
later, he died on active duty while still serving as a Chaplain.  After her
younger children were grown, Corene served as the school counselor for
grades 8-12 in a rural New Mexico school district for several years before
her retirement.
Co was born on a Sunday night, January 23, 1955, in Brownfield, Texas,
because Plains (where her father was preaching) was too small a town to
support a hospital. Co attended French pre-school and learned limited
French speaking ability while her parents were missionaries in Paris and
Evreux, France.  Beginning with 1st grade through 8th grade, she attended
19 different schools and had 23 different teachers.  Co became a
Christian in 1964 while living in Kaiserslautern Germany, where her father
was then stationed as a U.S. Army Chaplain.  Her brother and sister were
also born while her family was stationed in Germany.  She began high
school at Fort Hamilton High School, Brooklyn, NY, continued at William H.
Burgess High School, El Paso, TX, where she earned her diploma in
conjunction with the distance education program at Texas Tech.  Co’s first
husband, whom she met at college, was Melvin Joe Miller of Texas.  Their
two daughters are now married, both of whose husbands are currently
serving in the U.S. Army. Co’s second husband is Larry Fred Martin and
he has five children, all of whom Co loves very much.
She has earned a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Maryland,
history teaching certification at Angelo State University, an M.S. Ed. from
Harding University (special education and administration) and is currently
pursuing an M.S.T. with New Mexico Tech (This study was interrupted by
her
cancer and subsequent chemo-therapy.).
Co was privileged to have lived in Europe for seven and a half years.  She
has done short term missions to France, Kosovo and Haiti.  She also
helped to smuggle Bibles into Eastern Europe before the wall went down.
She has taught innumerable Bible classes and hopes one day to earn her
Ph.D. in Theology so that she can teach on the university level.  She was a
Brownie, a Girl Scout, an Explorer and served as a scout leader several
years.  Co enjoys roller skating, reading Science Fiction, playing video
games, spending time with her family and friends, listening to Christian
music and going to summer Bible camp.

Campaign for United States President, 2008 election
Although she originally planned her announcement in January of 2007, this
was delayed due to the discovery of
cancer and the subsequent biopsies,
surgery and chemotherapy.  Co has considered running several times
before, but at this point in time, this election seems to have no clear
leader.  Having no previous political experience could be a disadvantage
or an advantage, depending on the point of view.  The disadvantage would
be in not knowing the “ropes” and the advantage is in having no previous
political bad habits or old political debts to pay.

At its core, this is a grass roots campaign for positive political
change in the United States of America.
